.XXX debut

ICM Registry began offering .XXX domain names to the general public on December 6.  The registry reports they have been receiving about one million visits to the page listing participating registrars.  ICM also reported 80,000 applications were received during Sunrise.  Included in that number are the non-resolving registrations requested by trademark holders.

In a recent press release ICM announced that as part of its investigation of reported cybersquatting by a handful of individuals, it has suspended registrations that appear to involve unmistakable, blatant cybersquatting in violation of the Registry’s policies and the Registry-Registrant Agreement.  The suspended registrations include patterns of abusive registrations for names like businessweek.xxx, cnbc.xxx, geocities.xxx, nextag.xxx, snapfish.xxx, verizonwireless.xxx, washingtonpost.xxx, and gayroom.xxx, among others.
